The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter named “Journal of the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Society.” The Journal is usually 8 or 12 pages in size; on occasion it has been 16 pages. Some issues include color illustrations.
In our publication we discuss the history of the narrow gauge lines focusing on many topics such as the people, dates, places and equipment. Also discussed are current restoration projects of SPng equipment and modeling the railroads in all scales. The Southern Pacific Narrow Guage Historical Society (SPNGHS) is pleased to announce the publication of a new book focusing on the Carson & Colorado Railroad and
successor lines in Nevada and eastern California.
Authored by member Lawrence E. Meeker, the Guidebook “Along the Carson & Colorado / Hawthorne to Benton” provides 65 maps and 116
photos (many never before published) for exploring this segment of the line. Every known ghost town, siding, spur, and timetable-stop location is featured. The Guidebook includes detailed maps
for readers to find precise locations, and the author includes a section on ease-of-access to each site and the remaining structures or ruins. There are both historic
and modern photographs, many in color, and numerous then-and-now comparisons. Another section outlines museums in the region that have a focus on local or
railroad history. The Guidebook has 96 pages, soft covers, and is printed on heavy 80-pound high-gloss paper.
